Anyone wishing to be put on the lunch club's reserve list should contact 01905 27065.
Our lunch club has been running for approximately 20 years. We meet on Wednesdays during school term periods and anyone of pensionable age who lives in the local area is eligible to attend. However, we can only cater for 40 regulars and therefore have to operate a reserve list for others who wish to join. The whole operation is run by a dedicated band of volunteers. Birthdays don't pass unnoticed - everyone gets a card signed by all the staff and fellow diners. A special meal with all the trimmings is served in the run-up to Christmas and entertainment is provided by St George's Church of England Junior School choir - in addition all diners get a Christmas present to take home.
Our Minister attends the lunch club whenever she is able. Other members of the local clergy are also invited to the Christmas meal.
The lunch club is run on a not-for-profit basis and any surplus is usually used to fund new kitchen equipment and as a contribution towards the heating etc costs. It has been, and continues to be, an enormously successful venture which brings together the local community in a social environment. Long may it continue!
